For me it's how he helps the mobster that killed his family save his family only to kill him after wards. I know there is a little more to it than that, but the whole "working with the man who killed his family" is just so un-Punisher. He is supposed to be a man you can't reason with, a man who sees the world in black & white. Like in Warzone when that guy tells him what he wants to know and then he impales him on a pole for the heck of it, or when he shoots the unarmed guys face off just because he is a bad guy, that is The Punisher.

True enough. Though, in all fairness, Dolph does kill that guy.

I mentioned that, but wasn't that only because he turned against Dolph and tried to kill him anyways?

Kinda. I almost though he'd kill him anyways, for the sake of the kid. Plus, he basically ends the film threatening said child. I thought that was very funny. They should've made a sequel with Dolph.

Maybe if the ending had been a little more like this (please excuse the mostly irrelevant pictures, I used what I could find): A Japanese man* (it was the Japanese that kidnapped the boy, right?) holds the boy, "Hey Flanco, this will teach you to nevel tly and steal my lice again".**

Image

He puts a knife to the boys throat and starts slicing. All of a sudden the arm holding the knife falls to the floor. Blood flies all over the place. The camera pans around to reveal that The Punisher is standing behind him with a katana, "Funny looking chopstick", he throws it away.

Image

The Japanese man turns around, "My fucking alm". The Punisher just stares at him, "Let's finish this". "Helloooo, I am missing an alm you blute". "That's alright, I wont use any of mine". The Japanese man charges against The Punisher. The Punisher stands still, with both hands on his back, and headbutts the Japanese guy across the room. He then picks up a strategically placed statue of Buddha, "Prepare to meet your God"***, and rams it into the guys face, splitting his head in two.

Image

The boy runs over to his father, Franco, "They said they kidnapped me because it was the only way to hurt you". "Well let's make sure that never happens again", The Punisher raise a Browning .50 Caliber Machine Gun, or something of equal awesomeness, and blows Franco apart right in front of the kid.

Image

Then again maybe not.

* That lady sucked so I made her into a man
** Was this not the plot?
*** Frank Castle failed elementary school religion

All this talk about The Punisher has made me want to watch it again, I'll have to see about getting a hold of a "copy".

Also back to Planet Terror:

Just an opinion, not a complaint. I always considered this to be the best one-liner:

"Never did like that son of a bitch. About as useless as a pecker on a pope."

LOL That was fucking great.

As for the pecker on a pope line, it's a fairly common expression over here. Maybe that's why he didn't use it.

Okay, I had never heard the expression before I watched Planet Terror. Also, coming from the mouth of Michael Parks may have made it a little cooler in my mind than it was. That guy is awesome, to bad his non Tarantino related movies are so hard to come by. I only have The Hitman and Death Wish 5, one of the most enjoyable Norris movies, and one of the least enjoyable Bronson movies.

I also re-watched the Lundgren version of The Punisher, the action was better than I remembered, but I still found it to be unfaithful and kinda miscast (not as miscast as the '04 version, but still). I'd call it better than the '04 version, the determining factor being Louise Gosset jr, when he stops for pizza during his escape it always* cracks me up. Still non of them stands close to War Zone.**

* Both times
** At this point the thread has probably been used more for discussing movies that haven't been broken down

Or, more appropriately, movies that SHOULD be broken down. And yeah, Gosset is awesome in that one. Got another Jackie Chan breakdown on the way.

...Actually, it's already completed, but I haven't posted it yet. I'll be posting some other stuff this weekend if all goes well.

Yeah, The Punisher movies should definitively be broken down. Going to watch The Hidden today, which will be my next breakdown and contribution to the horror-action month. So then I can finally get to breaking down Death Wish II.
