So, I'm planning a horror movie marathon, where I will watch one horror movie a day for the entire month of October. I already have a half-complete list, but have run out of movies to pick. So I ask you, my fellow AOBG members, to recommend me some horror flicks, preferably obscure and underrated. It would be cool if you could include a short "sales pitch" to explain why you think this movie is worth watching. If any of you is planning a similar marathon, or just wants to talk about horror movies in general, feel free to post here.

Here is my list so far (All movies I have not seen yet):

1. The Omen (Original)
2. Martyrs
3. Night of the Demons a.k.a Demoni
4. The Grudge (American Version)
5. The Exorcist
6. House of the Devil
7. Child's Play
8. Visiting Hours
9. Prophecy (1979)
10. The Blob (80`s version)
11. Home Movie (2008)
12. Black Water
13. Leprechaun
14. The Howling
15. Don't Look Now
16. Babysitter Wanted
17. Dagon
18. Omega Man
19. Nosferatu (Werner Herzog version)
20. Black Christmas
21. Night of the Creeps
22. Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer
23. The Ruins
24. The Orphanage
25. The Poughskeepie Tapes
26. P2
27. Slumber Party Massacre

Movies I'm considering:
- Child's Play sequels
- The Reef
- Carriers

This is a great idea man. You probably want horror movies you haven't seen yet. So The Thing, Se7en, Re-Animator etc are probably not what you're looking for.

Carriers:
Starring Chris Pine and Piper Perabo about a group of people traveling across the country after a worldwide airborne virus has destroyed the world. Better than I expected when I first watched it a couple of years back. Great characters and story.

Babysitter Wanted:
Read about this in a list of top X underrated horror movies, great atmosphere and nice spin on conventions. The less you know the better.

Might try to come up with more.

Carriers seems a bit drama-ish for this marathon, but I'll consider it. Babysitter Wanted looks like exactly the type of movie I'm looking for, so thanks for your suggestion.

A horror movie I always thought deserved more recognition is Stuart Gordon's Dagon (2001), The first half genuinely creeped me out (although my complete ignorance of the works of H.P Lovecraft probably helped with that). Once it's revealed what's going on things get a bit silly but there's some pretty good gore, including one scene which I won't spoil that's quite hard to watch.

Visiting Hours is one I've wanted to see for a while myself. I'm hoping there'll be a UK dvd release in the future.

The only Child's Play sequel I like is the second. 3, Bride and Seed are dreadful and not scary at all. I recommend Let Me In.

I haven't seen too many horror movies, but here some of my favorite, lesser-known/less-talked-about (although not truly obscure) ones:

-Snakes on a Plane - Well, I loved it, but it's kind of a love-it-or-hate-it movie
-The Night of the Hunter - Robert Mitchum plays a serial-killing preacher hunting two kids in the Depression-era South
-Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror - Okay, this one's not actually scary while you watch it, but it has one of the best-looking movie monsters ever
-Plan 9 from Outer Space - a so-bad-it's-good sci-fi/horror z-movie
-Eyes of the Mothman - Lengthy documentary on the mysterious "Mothman" sightings in West Virginia in the '60s. It doesn't really provide any solid evidence (no photos or videos), but I still thought it was fascinating (although some of the stuff about Native American curses and aliens are hard to swallow, to say the least). It's kinda hard to believe what the eye-witnesses are saying is true, but I still thought it was a fun trip to the Twilight Zone. The Richard Gere movie The Mothman Prophecies is a fictionalized depiction of the alleged events covered here.
-The Omega Man - Charlton Heston versus post-apocalyptic zombies
-Carnival of Souls - Starts off kinda like a piece of MST3K-fodder, but it gets on-track within the first few minutes and becomes an excellent chiller

I might consider the Night of the Demons-trilogy (and the remake as well, it's pretty good), plus Return of the Living Dead and the only movie that frequently scares the shit out of me since I saw it the first time sometime in 2005: Mulholland Drive.

Thanks for your suggestions, everyone. Unfortunately most movies that have been suggested are movies I have already seen, or don't want to add to the marathon for various petty reasons, but I appreciate the effort. I added Omega Man and Nosferatu (I picked the Werner Herzog version, since it seems to be scarier than the original.) If anybody else is looking for underrated horror flicks, I can recommend The Woman(2011), V/H/S, The Children (2008),Demon Knight and Bad Moon.

I know it's kind of the wrong season, but have you seen the original Black Christmas? Pretty good.

We won’t see shit, but we’ll get the impression of the fight scene and everyone’s happy. Well, I don’t think so. I’m not a big fan of the way they film action in the Bourne films, or The Dark Knight for that matter."

Oh, I forgot all about that one. I'll definitely add it to my list.
