KAIN'S QUESSST!!! Great video, you truly are one of the Internet's foremost experts on the action genre. On a semi-related note, am I the only one who preferred the first Raid movie to the second one?

Yes! Another great video. Loved the lenghty indepth look into action cinema as once again provided by Kain!

PS I also preferred the first one to the second, Hest.

The first film succeeds mightily, and one of the big reasons why is that it is so self-contained. The second film is too long, too violent (I know, right?), and too spread out structurally.

I dunno but I found it to be a very ambitious, creative and epic action film that had really excellent fight scenes throughout and the story was intriguing to me, a little flawed but it went where the first one didn't, giving it a bit more depth. Still the first is more rewatchable and is isn't nearly 3 hours long!

The two movies are really different, it's quite hard to compare them I think, one is a self contained action movie set in one place during one day and the other is more of an hard-boiled thriller which paint a whole brutal criminal underworld. At least you could argue that they didn't wan't to cash in and redo the same thing for the sequel. Really dug Evans's brutal take on the Indonesian criminal underworld.

If Gareth Evans wan't to make a third movie, I hope it will deal with Indonesian paramilitaries (Those of you who've seen the movie the Act of Killing will understand why), it could bring the franchise to Expendables levels of action made with the brutal style of Gareth Evans (Come to think of it, it would be pretty similar to Rambo).

I really wouldn't mind. The Raid 2 had some of the best action scenes I've seen in years and I can only hope Evans continues to improve from there. The guy just needs to learn when to trim.

I'm all about The Raid 2 because it seems like it was pitched as "what if a Scorsese picture had martial arts?" and that's the kind of ambition I like to see. Stop pigeonholing martial arts films as genre films.

That's also why I hate Enter The Dragon.

I appreciate Enter The Dragon for it's kitchen sink attempt at film making, but Way Of The Dragon is where it's at for me.

A new Kain's Quest is always a welcome sight. Glad Uncommon Valor got a shout-out for starting the whole return-to-'Nam movie craze-thing. I love how you excavate all these ancient interviews and whatnot to help explain things. The third Missing in Action film is also my favorite of the franchise (I think the series gets progressively better with each entry). All in all, I need more Kain's Quest!
