Yes, it had 4 good seasons before it got bad, and when it was good it was the best show on TV. That was 4 years of characters that I got interested in, whether I love (Dex, Deb, Angel, Masuka, Doakes still deserves mentioning) or hate (LaGuerta, Quinn) them I still want to see what happens to them. I watch genuinely very little television, only three series and only one of those on actual TV, so when I start watching a series I enjoy I stick with it until the end. That is why I returned to Lost after attempting to stop watching it during season 3, that is why I watch a single episode of 24 beyond season 6 episode 4, and it is why I still watch Dexter.

You didn't even make it to the best season! Season 4 kicks ass.

Now that I know that such a moment is in that show, I won't see that season . . .

You're only missing out on the peak of what was then the best show on TV, and the best performance on any TV show, at least in the entire 2000s.

I would be in agreement had The Shield not come out with an outstanding final season the year before this 4th season as well as there being many other outstanding shows before this show was even conjured up (The Wire comes to mind; no sane person can argue with that ;) ).

Also, you're also acting like this is Lithgow's only good performance of the 2000s. Ever seen Third Rock from the Sun? Best performance of this entire century so far?? Don't make me laugh . . . Yes, I saw a performance of his segment on the Emmys but while skyrocketing outstanding, it was not the best of all time.

Sean, watch the season before making judgement on how good he is. He really is amazing in that show. And you see his ass. Just watch season 4. Do it now. It's worth it.

P.S: John Lithgow in 3rd Rock From the Sun is probably one of the best comedic performances ever put in a TV show. Lithgow is an amazing actor.

How is that fucking relevant? Both those shows went off the air in 2008, Dexter season 4 aired in 2009, how can those be relevant in what was the best show on the air in 2009 when they weren't on the fucking air in 2009? I would agree that The Wire was the best show on TV in the period 2002-2007, but in 2009 it would be impossible for it to be the best show on TV due to not being on TV.

No, not at all. I have never said anything like that at all. I said it was his best performance of the 2000s.

Okay, do you even understand how words work? "the 2000s" refers to the period 2000-2009, a ten year period or a decade if you prefer, not the 21st century. I believe he gave the best performance of any actor on television in the timespan 2000-2009, the first decade of the 21st century, not of all time, that is why I never said that.

The Golden Globes responded to the shows drop in quality with not nominating it for it's two regular awards. That makes season 6 the first one to score neither a Best Drama or Actor nod at Globes, and when the Globes ditches a regular nominee you know something is wrong because they will nominate the same stuff as many times as possible.

They still managed to snub the two best shows on television, Breaking Bad and Community, but luckily enough managed to muster some love for a Bryan Cranston nom. He should win too, he won't, but he really should.
