I rewatched an iffy scene in The Bravados where Lee Van Cleef might have a kill and...well, it's hard as Hell to see what's going on. The four bandits (one of which is Van Cleef) and a hostage riding away on horseback and we see a very long-distance shot set at night time of some of them shooting a look-out on a cliff. Van Cleef was wearing a white shirt in previous scenes and one puff of gun smoke came from a guy wearing a white shirt. In previous scenes the other bandits were wearing dark clothes, but in the shot of them shooting the guy, it kinda appears more than one of them is wearing white or something similar. I suppose there's no way to confirm the kill 100% for Van Cleef, but should it be counted towards his total?

I got the movie on DVD so I can check the scene and see what I get from it.

Looking at Shobary Spaghetti Westerns, it says Van Cleef has 6 fake kills in the beginning of Return of Sabata. If I recall correctly, the audience doesn't know it's a show and thinks he's killing real people. Would this fit under the "JCVD Law" of counting staged kills, if the audience doesn't know they're fake at the time?

By the way, have you looked into potential The Bravados kill for LVC yet?

I think the JCVD kills count because they are in a movie within movie, so technically they are movie kills. You should probably PM Kain, but that is at least my take on it.

I'd go with 'no' on the Van Cleef kill, firstly you can't tell which of them are Van Cleef, but also because there a two guy shooting and it looks like it the other guy that kills him. He is the one that gets the shot-cut-death at least.

Kain replied to the question about the staged "kills" in Return of Sabata a while ago, and now I'll finally get around to giving his report. He said they could count if they are realistic-looking and if the audience can't tell if it's actually a Wild West show. I haven't the movie in a long time, Rutledal, but do you remember if they meet this criteria?

Depends on the audience referring to those watching the movie, or those watching the show within the movie. If it the former than probably yes, that would also add an additional 11 kills to Nero's tally in Enter the Ninja.
